NM Snooker League
North Manchester Snooker League's previous website was hard to read and harder to maintain. A rebuild was designed and built end to end, then shown to a committee member once it was substantially complete — the league agreed to adopt it, and it's now running alongside the old site while fixtures, results and standings are verified in real use before the switch-over.
note: this is a self-initiated portfolio project, built outside the regular client roster — shown because range matters, flagged because transparency does too.
problem
What the business needed
The existing site was the usual story for a local league: walls of tables with no hierarchy, hard to update, and starting to show its age.
There was no brief and no client at the outset. The rebuild was designed and built first, on the belief that a proper version would make its own case once the league could see it working.
approach
How it was built
Designed dark-first with a sport-editorial tone: strong typographic hierarchy, tabular numerals for scores, and layouts that make standings scannable at a glance.
Treated fixtures, results and tables as the content that matters, and made them work properly on a phone screen at the club.
Went further than a straight rebuild: a password-protected admin area lets results be entered from a phone at the table — standings, handicaps and high breaks are all derived automatically from the match cards, not maintained by hand.
Once it was working end to end, it was shown to a committee member — the league agreed to adopt it, and it's now being run in parallel with the old site on purpose, so results and admin functions get verified in real use before that site is retired.
